Learn more about what we do
Let's understand how the body works. The central nervous system (CNS) consists of the brain and the spinal cord. The spinal cord carries messages from the brain to the rest of the body, and back. All the other systems of the body are dependent on these messages. The spinal cord is protected (usually) by 24 bones called vertebrae, which are meant to move freely. For different reasons, the alignment and motion of these bones can be disrupted (called a subluxation).
A chiropractor is trained to assess, diagnose and correct these problems by restoring its function with alignment and proper motion.
In conclusion, by allowing the CNS to function to its optimal ability will allow other systems of the body to improve as well.
What research shows
1)"Manual-thrust manipulation provides greater short-term reductions in self-reported disability and pain compared with usual medical care. 94% of the manual-thrust manipulation group achieved greater than 30% reduction in pain compared with 69% of usual medical care." (Schneider et al (2015), Spine).
2)"Older Medicare patients with chronic low back pain and other medical problems who received spinal manipulation from a chiropractic physician had lower costs of care and shorter episodes of back pain than patients in other treatment groups. Patients who received a combination of chiropractic and medical care had the next lowest Medicare costs, and patients who received medical care only incurred the highest costs." (Weeks et al (2016), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics).
3)"Reduced odds of surgery were observed for...those whose first provider was a chiropractor. 42.7% of workers [with back injuries] who first saw a surgeon had surgery, in contrast to only 1.5% of those who saw a chiropractor." (Keeney et al (2012), Spine).
Your first experience
If you have never been to a chiropractor, we will gladly explain to you what to expect. Firstly, Dr. Stein will spend time listening to your complaint. Then he will ask you certain questions about your complaint. He will then perform an examination of your muscles, nerves and bones. If necessary, Dr. Stein will order an X ray or MRI to help better visualize the problem.
After fully reviewing your specific complaint and the examination findings, then Dr. Stein will design a specific plan of care for your needs. He will explain what to expect, and answer any questions before starting the initial treatment.
There are different physical therapies offered, and based on the complaint the treatment will vary. Dr. Stein will explain and perform the therapy. Please be aware that there are many techniques in chiropractic, and some do not have "cracking sounds". If this is your concern, then Dr. Stein will offer a more gentler technique for you.
Easton Chiropractic Center will make every effort to give you the best experience possible!
